María García Hernández is professor of the Department of Geography at the Complutense University of Madrid. She holds a PhD in Geography (UCM) and a degree in Documentation (UC3M). She is part of the research team “Tourism, Heritage and Development” and professor of the Master’s Degree in Planning and Management of Tourist Destinations of the UCM School of Commerce and Tourism.
Within the module of Economics and Tourism of the Interuniversity Master’s Degree “The Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century: Management and Research” of the Complutense University and the Polytechnic of Madrid, subject “Financing, tourism and development”, will incorporate references to the “European Year of Cultural Heritage” in relation to two specific aspects: the reflection on the planning processes of the tourist activity in the context of cultural heritage and the challenges of sustainable management thereof.
Therefore, the students will have to carry out a review of the examples of tourism load capacity applied to the management of the most visited elements of the European historical-cultural heritage.
